it's good but not enough

This book give you an idea of you are looking for: 1) an introduction of the test and assistance about how you must make your interview with "the patient". 2) Fifty cases with the check list and the number of task that you need perform for passing the station and the test. 3) Observations for each case, differential diagnosis, laboratory test, treatment....among others. The only but also very important thing that this book would have had is a CD with video where you would see complete interview for each or some critical cases taking the real time that you have for taking the test. This is obviously important because give you a total comprehension with what you will be fighting.

A good start, but not enough to pass the ECFMG CSA exam.

This is the only book available with 50 clinical cases organized case by case, with check lists of manditory questions a doctor must ask for each specific set of signs & symptoms presented by a patient. It offers a general starting place to begin the data gathering process, but you must incorporate the examination and patient note according to the ECFMG standard. This book is all there is available at the moment, apart from commercial CSA review course notes. NMS is soon to provide a CSA Review book. A good study tool, but be careful, you cannot soley rely on it to pass your CSA exam, according to ECFMG standards.

Good review book

I have friends who enrolled in $1000+ review courses for the CSA. I myself read the video and info they sent, then went through this book and Swanson's Family Practice review. These and the clinical experience I've had from medical school gave me the confidence and tools to pass the CSA, and now I'm in residency in the US. It walks you through the thinking process you need to pass the CSA, but you yourself have to be sensitive between the differences between the CSA and OSCE.

Inappropriate for Mechanical Engineers

This book tries to accomplish what may actually be impossible: provide comprehensive coverage of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer in a single book. This book, which seems to be marketed toward mechanical engineering curricula, is only appropriate for non-ME engineers who need an overview of the thermal-fluid sciences in order to pass licensure exams. Cengel has written fairly well-regarded books on these subjects separately, but it doesn't work in a single volume, especially considering that each individual text is almost the same size as the combined text.
First, the thermo section is by far the best. It provides adequate coverage of most engineering thermo topics. However, it does leave out any discussion of chemical thermodynamics or thermodynamic relations. These omissions won't bother many people, but are significant in that most other thermo books cover them. The second edition includes a chapter on psychrometrics that was apparently dropped for the 3rd. Also, the sections on vapor and gas power systems are a little too simple.
Next, the fluids section is absolutely worthless, especially for mechanical engineers. The fluid statics section is convoluted, the Bernoulli equation is poorly developed, there's no coverage of supersonic or compressible flow, and the section on turbo-machinery (which most books DON'T include) is marginally useful, at best. A crash course in dimensional analysis is included, with mixed results.
The heat transfer section is fairly good, but not as comprehensive as it should be. Notably, the HEAT EQUATION IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. Not once is it mentioned. From a historical perspective, the heat equation is the starting place for heat transfer, so its exclusion is inexcusable. Development of empirical relationships for convection coefficients is good, but it feels rushed, and you just learn to look up the appropriate relationship without getting a a qualitative feel for the governing physics. The radiation sections are okay, but are more qualitative than quantitative. Besides the obvious omission of the heat equation, also missing is a dedicated chapter to heat exchangers (important for MEs), any mention of radiation HT in participating media, and numerical methods.
The one bright spot: The appendices. The thermodynamic property tables are some of the easiest to read I've ever seen. I prefer the thermo text by Moran and Shapiro, but I go cross-eyed whenever I try to look up a property in their steam table.
I was forced to use this book for thermo, fluids, and HT. I thought it would be a nice reference afterward, but it hasn't turned out to be. I picked up Moran and Shapiro for thermo, Munson for fluid mechanics, and Incropera-DeWitt for HT, and I've found they're much better for reference purposes. File this book under: Nice try, but no thanks.

Cengals books are good learning tools.

Cengal is my favourite author for fluids.
He gives the detail I like plus clear worked examples as well as not skipping steps.
This one is a pretty good "all in one " that really only misses the finite difference method in heat transfer. This is a real shame because he explains it far better than Incropera and even now when I looked at Incropera's in review I was like wtf?
I have all of Cengal's books on pdf and bought this to have as a quick reference on the shelf.It also has a decent section of tables in the appendix which is common amongst all 3. I would have liked to buy Munsons fluid mech, Cengals heat and mass transfer and then decide on a thermo book but it costs too much for int ship so this was a very good option considering all.
I gave it 4 stars because for whatever reason, they decided to not include one of his best parts! (Finite difference method)

(July 10, 1998) Reviewer: A reader from Minneapolis, MN I was looking for a book that would teach me enough about the current technology in electronic component packaging and multilayer PCBs that I wouldn't feel like a fool working with manufacturing engineers, PCB layout people, PCB manufacturers, and assemblers. I think I learned quite a bit; now people think I have years of experience with these technologies. I really like the format. Each chapter in this book is written by a different person: there are people from HP, TI, IBM, Motorola and dozens of others that offer theory and practical knowledge. I think this book is quite useful, but I also think two things are necessary to make it work: (1) moderate electronics/PCB background and (2) a more experienced co-worker who can answer any questions that you have. The best and most up to date book of its kind. About the Author
Clyde F. Coombs Jr., is one of the best-selling editors in professional publishing. Must have reference book

The only reason I give this book a 4 star rating is because of the information that was removed from fourth to fifth edition. To serve as a complete reference you must buy both editions. The topics covered are significantly different.

Excellent books. Must have for any person involved in Printed circuit board industry.

I agree with the majority of the reviews here. This is an invaluable reference book. Put it this way, this book will likely save you at least one re-spin on a complex board. That alone will pay for it's cost many times over.

Not for designing PCB

I bougth this book to have a reference on the desing of PCB. (How wide to design the traces, what distance should i use betweeen traces...) I found it prety useless.
Nevertheless, it is a goog book to undestand the process and manifacturing of PCB, if this is your business

Probably the best book for Electric Machinery Fundamentals

I gave it 5 stars because the book delivers. You will have a good fundamental understanding of electric machinery after reading this (from an engineers standpoint I mean - if you're not an engineer or physicist, this probably will be way more than you can handle). Good problems in the book also for practice (although it would be a lot better if they made the solutions available?!? Not sure why they wouldn't do this. I mean we are trying to learn right?)

FYI - You will need to supplement this book, especially for 3-phase and 1-phase induction motors, because the material just isn't explained/diagrammed out as well as it needs to be to get a FULL fundamental understanding. There are steps that are skipped and/or not covered in the detail I'd like. I have lots of questions that weren't explained/answered, and some stuff I can't see from the authors' logic how it could be so. I do think the synchronous machines chapter was excellent, but still had to scratch my head for a while on a few things.

All in all though, I think the book is very good and would recommend it to any engineer trying to understand electric machinery. You're not going to come out of this book ready to design a synchronous generator or induction motor, but YOU WILL be ready for the next step in learning about them and understanding power systems.

An excellent resource

The subject matter is presented in superb technical detail, but in a straight-ahead style that should be readily understood by any reader with a good grounding in basic electronics. The emphasis is on what the equipment does and why; and although there are no schematics or discussions of particular circuit details, this information is readily available from other sources and its omission is not a flaw in the case of this book. This book takes more of a "systems" approach and discusses the video and audio waveforms, the type of equipment used to generate, process, transmit and receive them, and the various technical standards used in television and computer video. As an audio/radio engineer starting a new career in the television field, I chose this book to help get me up to speed on video technology, and it has not disappointed me.

This is it!

I finally found "THE" book to meet our needs. I am an assistant teacher at the Electronics Engineering School at Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria, Lima, Peru. For years we have been trying to find a book on which to rely on for the complete course of Television Engineering. Our choice has been made, this is the book. Despite the few differences between the second and third edition, which we celebrate, the contents of this books is a condensed coverage of all topics related to television in a modern view. Our goal is to teach our students the widest range of knowedge about television systems, starting from analog TV up to DTV, and happily, this books covers it all. My favorite chapter is the one related to CATV systems, I found a lot of material previously unknown to me, good to know, if you find that I have been in the television business for the last 10 years and I have been Technical Manager of one of the most popular stations in my country. I recommend you to buy this book, read it deeply and you will learn a lot about the most innovative technologies of the new "vision" of "Television".

This book was published in 1998 and it shows. I expected a bit more engineering but this is more like a technical overview. It is strange that it introduces formulae with very little explanation.

I think it's great when someone like Steve Arneson writes a book. Here is a guy who C-level execs pay tens of thousands of dollars a year for advice and consultation about their leadership development. Because of this book, though, the rest of us can benefit from Arneson's insight - for a sum less than one good martini at a top steakhouse.

From the beginning, you know Arneson understands his subject and his audience. The self-evaluation at the beginning of the book leads to a self-prioritization of the 50 lessons to follow. Feeling mighty? Work on the 10 things you recognize as weaknesses. Feeling low? Read the chapters on the 30 things you know you do well and be self-affirmed. Just getting started? Start from the beginning and start to recognize your innate talents and areas for developmental focus. Regardless, you can use the self-test to get to the content that matters the most to you, right NOW. (Evidently Arneson does has some experience with A-type personalities...)

I like the way he uses stories from his career and the example of leaders he has witnessed to illustrate and prove his points. Storytelling is effective for at least one great reason: it gives us the "because." Whether the narrative is a mere setup for the "moral of the story" or draws a vivid picture of the cause and effect, Arneson's stories are an engaging means of getting his point across.

Don't assume that because the book has "leadership" in the title, that effective human interaction is the sum total of the lessons it holds. While there is much about that in the book, Arneson has a well-rounded view of the successful executive as yes, a leader of people, and a visionary with a thorough understanding of the business, its drivers, financials, competitors, risks and opportunities. Regardless of your blindspot or simple developmental opportunity, you'll find some ideas and actions to help you address it.

I'm often skeptical of books with "5 of this" or "21 of that" in their title, as a careful reading leaves me wondering whether there really are that many or whether the author stretched to hit the number or ignored additional nuance to make his/her editor happy. In this case, while there remains a bit of that skepticism, I am also hard-pressed to say which ones I might have combined or deleted - at least without comparing the relative heft of the chapters. And that feels like cheating. Also, if you're looking for a more prescriptive book - be this, don't be that - you'll probably be disappointed. Arneson is clearly committed to leadership as a voyage of self-discovery and meaning; this book aims to lead and equip us on that journey - not preempt it.

This is a book for your library that you'll pull down frequently - to share, to guide your reflection, to recharge your batteries. And that, my friends, makes it worth its weight in gold - let alone martinis.

The book that was sent has the same title but does not have a matching isbn to what was searched. The edition number is wrong and the book is an international edition(wrong units for U.S.). It is a shame that students are continually being ripped off.
