A decent handbook for beginning residents especially emergency medicine residents. Decent guide on signs and symptoms; making the diagnosis; treatment and disposition. A little too brief in places and occasional errors but well worth it.

Great starter book

Great, easy-to-read, overview of emergency diagnosis and treatment. A bit superficial compared to the other Current titles and definitely not a definitive text on the subject. However, this edition is an excellent starting point for someone learning the basics and the older editions are a great value at only a few dollars each.

you don't have to own this book to know when to dispatch the patient.
you have to evaluate more on the treatment like what to do before admiting the patient into the hospital.

Nice exercise textbook

Very up to date scientific information is in this book. For me it served as a valuable follow-on for reading in more detail after I sat for the massively online course at coursera for exercise physiology provided by University of Melbourne's Mark Hargreaves, PhD.

"A. V. Rajwade is a well-known risk management consultant, author, columnist and trainer. He has vast experience and expertise in the financial markets including two decades of working with the SBI in India and abroad and almost three decades of consulting many corporate organizations and banks. A Framework for Selling in the New Century

Some of the books addressing the Internet's effect on business are so buried in futurist fantasy, that it's appliaction for selling today is limited. Rackham and De Vincentis do an excellent job of building a framework for viewing today's selling in an atmosphere of radical change including, but not limited to the Internet's effect on business. Filled with relevant examples, and clear advice about what works and what doesn't; I found the book very valuable in thinking how to apply new age selling to old work products. The premise of the book is that Sales must be about creating value for the customer and not just communicating it. How this is done is dependent on the nature of the sale: transactional, consultive, or enterprise and the structure of the sales channel. They warn against the ctitcal mistakes of applying the wrong solution for the wrong type of sale: If you are in a transactional situation (cost and price driven) it would be disastrous to apply a consultive or enterprise solution. They also warn that while our egos may want us to think that we want a consultive or enterprise relationship, that these types of sales are much tougher that we think, and that enterprise sales specifically are rarely successful for both parties. This is solid usable information. It should be a part of your thinking on sales strategy.

Rackham's book was published in 1991 and laid the foundation for new thinking in how we align with our customer's buying processes and create value, reduce costs or become easier to do business with. About the Author
After teaching for more than 28 years at the City University of New York, He is currently a professor of Economics in the Department of Social Sciences at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. Dr. Gujarati received his M.Com. degree from the University of Bombay in 1960, his M.B.A. degree from the University of Chicago in 1963, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago in 1965. Dr. Gujarati has published extensively in recognized national and international journals, such as the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Economic Journal, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Business, the American Statistician, and the Journal of Industrial and Labor Relations.

Although I don't have anything to compare it to, the book has several serious shortcomings.

First, the organization is poor. There are often appendices at the end of chapters, as well as at the end of the book, and the references to these can get very confusing. Also, the problems at the end of each chapter take up way too much space. The general rule is to put an entire table of data on the page for each problem, which often takes up an entire page or two, despite the fact that these data are also included electronically, and presumably if you are doing data analysis you will want to use the electronic version rather than hand-entering massive tables. So you often have chapters with 20+ pages of problems in between, few of which are very helpful, and they just get in the way.

Second, the problems seem pointless. The data often are not well explained, and the problems simply ask you to apply such-and-such test to the data, without really any background for interesting interpretation or useful insights. Clearly not much effort was put into these. As a whole the book was heavy on statistical tests and short on data analysis.

Another major problem, which might be unavoidable, is the continued use of scalar versions of linear regression models throughout the text. There is a brief review of linear algebra in the appendix, but this not taken advantage of, and so we get some extremely clumsy formulas for estimators at times, and generally an unnecessary amount of complexity that could be avoided by integration of matrix forms of the models.

Overall, there is a lack of clarity and flow. I did appreciate that the authors frequently explain concepts in several different ways, which can help in understanding. However, sometimes it's best just to get to the point, which is rare here.

Not recommended, especially for those who know basic matrix or linear algebra -- though I can't suggest any alternatives.

This may be listed as an undergrad textbook...

...but it was invaluable for me in understanding the general principles of econometrics for my Master's level econometrics course. I consider myself to be just "okay" when it comes to statistics, and even though I had a semester of Master's level statistics prior to taking my econometrics course, I found myself as lost as ever when trying to read a higher level econometrics textbook that supposedly taught at an introductory level. Enter "Basic Econometrics", and my eyes were slowly opened to the beauty of statistics. Overall, I appreciate Gujarati's simple English approach, while remaining generally rigorous in overall coverage.

I would also recommend purchasing this international edition to save yourself some hard earned money.

About the Author
Cheol S. Eun (Ph.D., NYU, 1981) is a professor of finance and currently holds the Thomas R. Williams Chair in International Finance at Georgia Institute of Technology. Before joining Georgia Tech, he taught at Kent State University, University of Minnesota, and the University of Maryland, and at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He has published extensively on international finance issues in such major journals as the Journal of Finance, JFQA, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Portfolio Management, Management Science, and Oxford Economic Papers. Currently he is an associate editor of the Journal of Banking and Finance, Global Finance Journal, European Financial Management. Professor Eun has taught a variety of courses at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels and was the winner of the Krowe Teaching Excellence Award at the University of Maryland and has served as a consultant to many national and international organizations. Bruce G. Resnick (D.B.A. Indiana, 1979) is a professor of management at the Babcock Graduate School of Management of Wake Forest University. Prior to coming to the Babcock School, he taught at Indiana University for ten years, the University of Minnesota for five years, and California State University for two years. Professor Resnick has also taught as a visiting professor at Bond University, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, and at the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration. Like Professor Eun, he has had research articles published in the most prestigious academic journals, and he has served as a consultant to a number of nonprofit and for-profit organizations in the selection of investment managers for organizational funds

Excellent MBA-level text

This book is a required text for my International Financial Management class in my MBA study. It has good coverage, clear explanations of sophisticated concepts and models, and good organization of contents, an definitely excellent MBA-level text. It also includes some CFA level II problems at the end of some chapters.

Please note that this book is only suitable for those who are already familiar with Corporate Finance and Economics. Without such preliminary knowledge in mind, one may find it difficult to follow.

I read this book almost page by page during my class, which helped me understand the class's lecture notes. There are not many good texts on International Finance out there, this's a good one, especially good for serious study. And I know it was also used in Wharton School as the textbook for International Corporate Finance.

Step-by-step guide from the master

This book set me up very nicely for a career in forex markets. Possibly the gentlest introduction to international finance, the book does not waste any time with implementation of the ideas, instead provides you with the requisite knowledge, and illustrative examples. I had the fortune of being taught the subject by the author (Dr. Eun), and so the book was fully utilized. However, other teachers would also find the book an ideal companion to course notes. In fact, the book is so well written, it seems like a tutorial. You cannot go wrong if you are using it for international finance courses. The book will also help you with preparation for the CFA charter examinations.

Brian D. The Most Informative Book Ive Read On This Subject.

I have read about 6 books from Amazon on B-17's over Europe to date and this book is easily the most detailed. While reading this book I couldn't help but to be amazed by the amount of research that went into the books writing. This is not to say, however, that this book is only factual and not emotional. While it is full of statistics, documents, and photos, one cannot help but to create an emotional bond with the crews who share their experiences, both from personal interviews, and from actual diaries kept during the events. This book is also a wonderful source of follow up information with its other publishing's, and web sites listings in the back. If you are looking for a factual, educational, as well as emotional read, this book is for you. Again I say to all those who actually fought and flew, thank you! We can never even begin to understand your sacrifices; yet every day we live what you gave us. Freedom!

Same Version as Hardback

I bought this version to save a little money. Its so surprising how much they charge for the regular hardback edition. I found that the only difference is the cover. Great Value. This book was easy to understand and I scored a 3.8 in my microbiology class! :)
