F. Robert Jacobs is currently department chairman at Indiana University. He has a PH.D from Ohio State and is past Vice President of the Decision Sciences Institute, Information Technology Coordinator for Decision Sciences Institute for 1997, as well as Associate Editor on the board of the Journal of Operations Management. Richard B. Chase is Director of the Center for Operations Management Research and Education at USC. Operations and supply chain management

I bought the book for a class offered by Walmart thru APUS. The one that I should have gotten was the core book instead of the Global Edition. The class had the core book in an electronic format inside the classroom and was only 14 chapters instead of 20 in the Global edition. It is an ok book and has a lot of good information, just make sure of what edition that you really need if you take a class that uses this book.

Good as introduction, but less good as a reference book

The book explains the momentum, heat and mass transfer in a quite accessible form. It is well organized and the reader will find quite quickly, what (s)he needs. The book is very pedagogic. It is devoted to the heat transfer theory. Consequently, it contains only a few experimental correlations. I would recommend it for the undergraduate and graduate students. The people concerned with the industrial applications will need to accompany it by a handbook, which provides heat transfer correlations in specific cases.

About the Author
Stephen Ross is presently the Franco Modigliani Professor of Finance and Economics at the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. One of the most widely published authors in finance and economics, Professor Ross is recognized for his work in developing the Arbitrage Pricing Theory and his substantial contributions to the discipline through his research in signaling, agency theory, option pricing, and the theory of the term structure of interest rates, among other topics. A past president of the American Finance Association, he currently serves as an associate editor of several academic and practitioner journals. He is a trustee of CalTech, a director of the College Retirement Equity Fund (CREF), and Freddie Mac. He is also the co-chairman of Roll and Ross Asset Management Corporation. Randoloph W. Westerfield is Dean of the Marshall School of Business at University of Southern California and holder of the Robert R. Dockson Dean's Chair of Business Administration. From 1988 to 1993, Professor Westerfield served as the chairman of the School's finance and business economics department and the Charles B. Thornton Professor of Finance. He came to USC from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, where he was the chairman of the finance department and member of the finance faculty for 20 years. His areas of expertise include corporate financial policy, investment management and analysis, mergers and acquisitions, and stock market price behavior. Professor Westerfield has served as a member of the Continental Bank trust committee, supervising all activities of the trust department. He has been consultant to a number of corporations, including AT&T, Mobil Oil and Pacific Enterprises, as well as to the United Nations, the U.S. Department of Justice and Labor, and the State of California.

This International version nearly identical to US book Corporate Finance 8th Edition ISBN 0073337180. I was supposed to have the US book for my class and mistakenly bought this one. I compared my book to a classmates and the only differences I found were in the problems. Rather than an American company name like Irrigation Specialists and money in $'s, the problem would read Broslofski and money is in Euros. So if you want to save money, I recommend buying the international version.

Robert Stone is a Professor in the Biology Department at Suffolk County Community College and is also a co-author of the successful Coloring Guide to Anatomy and Physiology and Atlas of Skeletal Muscles. Robert, and his wife, Judith, have combined teaching experience of over 30 years. Judith Stone is Adjunct Professor of Biology at Suffolk County Community College. She is the co-author of the successful Coloring Guide to Anatomy and Physiology and Atlas of Skeletal Muscles. Judith works on the College Board Achievement Test in Biology. Judith and her husband, Robert, have combined teaching experience of over 30 years.

About the Author
Jane P. Mallor has taught business law at Indiana University since 1976. During that time she has received many teaching awards, including the Student Alumni Council Senior Faculty Award, the Faculty Colloquium for Excellence in Teaching, and the Amoco Foundation award for Distinguished Teaching. A. James Barnes is Dean and Professor of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. He previously won a distinguished teaching award from Indiana University's School of Business. Thomas Bowers is a faculty member of Indiana University's School of Business. He has received 10 outstanding teaching awards, and is the only two-time recipient of the Indiana University Student Choice Award for outstanding teaching. Arlen W. Langvardt currently Associate Professor of Business Law at Indiana University received several teaching awards and in 1989 received the Holmes/Cardozo Award from the Academy of Legal Studies in Business.

A great advertisement, but short on implementation.

I am a little bemused by the previous reviews. Being a practicing engineer, I had hoped for an more rigorous introduction to applying robust engineering principles, coupled to real life engineering examples. What I got was essentially a book length advertisement aimed at people who don't need or want to know how to do it, merely order someone else to apply the techniques. If you are a manager considering implementing robust engineering practices and design of experiments, by all means, read the book and convince yourself and your boss it is the way to go. If you actually want to use the techniques, buy a different book.

shoud rename the title

I'm also surprised by 4 stars & other praises of this book (e.g., Fortune).

the book should be renamed "Case Studies of Taguchi Method" and the "authors" should be renamed as "editors"

it also does not telll you the method & its statistical basis, its strength & weakness compared with other methods, its assumptions and so forth. In addition, it lacks a biblography. Overall, we are just supposed to take a leap of faith. The book feels like "informercial"

Good book for learning environmental biotechnology concepts

The book arrived in a timely manner. I've only read over the first two chapters, and our professor hasn't really used it yet for any assignments in class. However, it seems decent enough to learn about needed environmental technology concepts. I found the first two chapters gave very thorough detail, so whatever depth of material you would use in class, this text should be fine.

Ok book for beginners

This is an Ok book for mechanical engineers interested in learning the basics of mechatronics. The book provides a very basic introduction of electronic devices and gives the reader a flavor of the field of mechatronics. However, if you are a seasoned engineer with a basic understanding of electrical engineering, you will need something else.
In my opinion, this book has been written at a level that is appropriate for junior engineering students and it is not suitable for a practicing engineer with some real-world experience.

Cursory Overview

This book provides an overview of the concept of radiant floor heating (RFH) systems. Although there is useful information provided in the book, it is lacking for useful design tools. Those who are adept at surfing the web are likely to find as much information about RFH from a couple of hours of searching than is contained within this book. Certainly not written for professionals, the text is at times poorly written and somewhat repetitive. I recommend that interested home owners consider the books on RFH by Siegenthaler (Modern Hydronic Heating....) and Holohan (Hydronic Radiant Heating).

Learn from the experts!

I learned only one thing from this book: never buy a technical how-to book unless the author's experience and qualifications are given. R. Dodge Woodson dodged this point because he doesn't have any. As the author of several diverse titles in the McGraw-Hill "Professional" series, he is, obviously, just a non-technical writer. In this case, he has strung together useless platitudes based on what he understands from manufacturers' literature, which isn't much. He can't give any "real answers," as the book cover claims. Only the appendix of this book is useful. It contains data provided by the manufacturers, and that information can be obtained from them directly, probably at no cost! McGraw-Hill, years ago a premier publisher of informative and authoritative technical and scholarly books, should be ashamed of itself.

This book will not benefit anyone. It is repetitive and lacking the necessary detail to truly plan and install a radiant floor heating system. It's unfortunate that books like this are not screened before being made available to the unsuspecting public.
