Excellent handbook

I love this book and have used it for years as the book to get my foundation design thinking headed in the right direction. My original copy is now somewhat bruised from all the use, annotation, highlighting and page flipping. It has broad scope and includes tables with data that would take much time to dig up from somewhere else. I think it is an excellent compilation of the broad scope of subjects a foundation engineer could need to tackle in any average day. Updating it makes sense to me.

Very Pleased

I found this book to be very insightful in all things foundations; shallow, deep, etc. Joseph Bowles does an excellent job of bringing a very technical subject to novice engineers seeking to increase their knowledge base on such a complex subject. My preference would have been English units but the SI calculations throughout the book do not detract from its thoroughness of content coverage.

Software is too old to run on any new computer

Just bought this book. It would seem that being able to use the software is integral to being able to use the book. Unfortunately, all the software is dated 1994 and 1995 and in 2012 with Windows 7 - that is a problem. In short, the software won't run. I tried calling McGraw Hill - they could not help. I tried googling "Joseph E Bowles", unfortunately Joseph passed away in 2003. The phone numbers in the readme file are also disconnected. In short, I have to find a machine with Window 98 on it would seem.
