Misleading Item

I have no problem with the book. However, what Amazon is not telling you is that this is NOT the original book, but the INTERNATIONAL cheap-paper edition. You can buy the real edition brand new for 20% less elsewhere, and this version for practically nothing. Shame on Amazon.

Get a Cheap Dover

I went through a lot of Complex Analysis books and just about all of them have the same feel - enlightening in some sections, boring in others, confusing in others. I used this in part combined with Holland in a Graduate course in Complex Analysis which had a quite fun feeling, but at the end sort of left me wondering the use of this course. For an undergraduate course, I think a very short book is best, only cover the essentials, maybe introduce some of the applications. There is a little Dover out there somewhere about Harmonic Functions and Complex Analysis, I think this is one of the better texts. Holland is good for some proofs of the more difficult theorems, but a book at that level sort of scratches my head...all these sophisticated techniques, one begs to see where the necessity of invention for these things lies. To be honest most of these books are really more about the typeface and the paper they come on because Complex Analysis has mostly the same proofs and ideas, so get a cheap Dover if you're just starting out. Otherwise I think Gamelin's book is probably the best for the Graduate/intermediate level.

Pretty good intro text book into complex variables

Pretty good as far as math text books go. It was easy to read and follow, which was good since the class I needed this for followed the book more or less exactly. The soft cover international edition saved me quite a few bucks.
