About the Author
Edward Blocher is professor of accounting at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina. His undergraduate degree (economics) is from Rice University, his MBA from Tulane University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. Professor Blocher presents regularly on strategic cost management at the national meetings of both the American Accounting Association (AAA) and the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).

Confusing.

Although this book helped me understand the topic of Cost Accounting, at times I thought it went back and forth a lot throughout the Chapters. I found myself wondering why the authors decided to jump around so much. Very confusing. My teacher ended up making many of her own templates to help us understand the material easier. She even said she hated the book. Apparently she didn't select the text to be used.

Does an Okay Job of Explaining Managerial Cost Analysis

Compared to other books on this subject, I have to say this book is only okay. I've taken three classes in Managerial Cost Analysis and this book was probably the worst of the three. It still has its uses, but for my course we barely even used it. Definitely would not recommend this if you were using this by yourself, but it will do if your teacher says to buy it for a specific course.

One of the worst textbooks I've ever had the displeasure of reading

There is no rhyme or reason to the presentation of the material in this textbook, as is obvious by the way the subject matter jumps around from chapter to chapter. For example, what is covered in chapter 7 may be further covered in chapter 17, with no reason for separation of the material.
In addition, the color materials in the text are almost nonexistent. It is like a monochromatic nightmare to read, which makes any long term reading comprehension nigh impossible.
I am just grateful that I am finished with the MBA course that used this as a required text so that I never have to open it again. What a disappointment. I hope for future student's sake that the newly updated version is much improved.
